Description Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Chicken The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Chicken is one of the most eye-catching members of the Wyandotte family, prized for its deep red feathers edged in soft blue-gray lacing. Developed in the United States and recognized as part of the Wyandotte group by the American Standard of Perfection, this variety combines beauty with practical farmyard usefulness. Cackle Hatchery® offers the production-type Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, bred for steady egg production and good temperament rather than show. These birds are considered a dual-purpose breed, valued for both egg production and meat use. Hens generally weigh around 6½ pounds, while roosters reach about 8½ pounds, with pullets and cockerels slightly smaller. They have clean legs and the classic rose comb that Wyandottes are known for. Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are well known for their calm and friendly temperament, making them a good choice for backyard flocks and families. They adapt easily to confinement or free-range systems and tend to mix well with other breeds. Hens may go broody on occasion and are often good mothers when allowed to hatch and raise chicks naturally. Egg production is dependable, with hens laying an estimated 180 to 260 medium-to-large brown eggs per year (production estimates only; see FAQ), depending on care and environment. They prefer a roost height of two to four feet and do best with a breeding ratio of about nine females to one male, with fertility commonly ranging between 60 and 75 percent. Cackle Hatchery® has been developing its Wyandotte bloodlines for decades, focusing on strong laying ability, consistent fertility, and temperaments well suited for backyard poultry keepers. At select times of the year, we also offer fertile hatching eggs and started pullets for this variety. NOTE: “The blue laced red Wyandotte does not breed a true blue color. The blue lacing color will be very light on some, a very good blue lacing on others and some will have a very dark blue/black lacing on others. Just like other blue colored breeds they do not breed true to the same shade of blue.“ Check out our blog “Wyandotte Chickens in the Heritage Breed Spotlight” “Blue Laced Red Wyandotte or Splash Laced Red Wyandotte?” Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Chicken FAQs What is the personality of a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte?
